why is

this important

Homelessness is a multifaceted problem, and solving it requires a similarly multifaceted approach. One person may need help getting their documents back and finding a job; another may need medical treatment; a third may need to locate relatives and return home; and a fourth may need assistance in court to reclaim an apartment that was fraudulently taken from them…

Without professional help, it is very difficult for a homeless person to get off the streets. Our staff help people on the brink of homelessness avoid ending up on the streets, and help those who are already in trouble cope with the issues that led them there. Unlike government agencies, we don’t look at where a person was last registered or what their citizenship is. We help everyone we can.

How it

works

People contact the Counselling Service with a wide variety of questions: how to find a job if employers won’t hire them without registration; how to obtain a compulsory health insurance policy; how to reclaim an apartment taken by scammers; how to replace a lost passport; and how to access necessary medical treatment.

Sometimes a single consultation is enough, but more often than not, people in trouble need more substantial assistance. In such cases, our social workers and lawyers begin a long-term process of social and legal support: they draft requests, search for job openings, help restore documents, and accompany the individual to various agencies, including court proceedings. It all depends on the specific situation. The goal of this work is to help resolve the problems that led the person to end up on the street. We also help people improve their quality of life: apply for a pension, find a job, and apply for disability benefits.
